February 2011

I had my first opportunity to donate caps. I found out that V Care (www.vcarecancer.org) is organizing 17th Cancer Survivor’s Day and will be recognizing some of the survivors for their courage to fight the disease. While I could only knit a few myself, my mom contacted some of her friends to see if they might be able to assist.

They volunteered and I was able to donate a basket of caps to the children who are undergoing the treatment. Vandana Gupta, founder of V Care and her team are inspiring cancer survivors each and every single day! V Care's quarterly newsletter (page ten) features the event in more detail. Shobhaa De also attended the event and she shared about Rainbow Caps on her blog.

February 2011

V Care arranged a trip for me to meet little children and I took my caps for them. It made me happy to see that they used them immediately. I just wish I had more as some kids didn’t get one.

January 2010 and August 2010 - Sprinkles

Three of my friends and I were talking about how bad we felt about all the homeless kids around us, we wanted to do something fun and that would raise money for them. We all loved to bake so we quickly planned a bake sale for the upcoming Independence Day; we called the bake sale Sprinkle.

We made cookies, cakes and brownies and did the icing with green, orange and white. We were able to raise Rs. 5000! We all went to the closest store and bought chocolate bars, crackers, and juice boxes for the kids. Our next bake sale in August donated money to a animal shelter JeevAshram
.

November 2010 - Pop n Ade

My school was having a day where different grades could come and sell stuff so we could earn money for charity. My grade, 5th grade, was having a stand where we sold popcorn and lemonade. Each kid would bring 2 litres of lemonade if they wanted to.
It was hot, sticky Friday afternoon and our lemonade was selling very fast, one cup cost Rs.20.

The popcorn was selling quickly too. Fifth grade was able to raise the second highest amount of money out of all other grades
and stalls.
